ABOUT ANN DREW

Ann Drew (they/them) is a graphic designer, illustrator, comic artist, and the founder of the independent publishing house Sapphic Scify Comics. From a small Midwestern town divided by Route 66, Drew grew up surrounded by the remnants of Americana. By merging their interests in queer science fiction pulps, 1960s psychedelic print ephemera, and mid-century ornamental filigree, Ann creates dynamic graphic illustrations that uncover the persistent motifs that define queer culture and storytelling in the United States. With an evolving body of work, Drew has self-published three titles: Ether Quest: A Conflict of Coitus (2022), Venus and the Apis (2024), and Quiet Piggy: A Political Cartoon Magazine (2026), all of which thematically explore fluid, queer, and political bodies. They earned dual BFA degrees in Illustration and Graphic Design from the University of Central Missouri, Warrensburg (2019) and subsequently received their MFA in Illustration from the University of Arizona, Tucson (2022). Drew now teaches full-time at Lindenwood University as an Assistant Professor of Graphic Design, engaging with undergraduate and graduate students whilst also working with vibrant arts centers in the Midwest and the Southwest through freelance work, self-publications, and collaborative projects.
