Ether Quest: A Conflict of Coitus presents a fast-paced science fiction narrative that follows an away team reminiscent of Star Trek as they attempt to mediate peace between warring alien planets, each characterized by distinct genitalia-based features. This comic synthesizes two years of research into various American Pulp movements and investigates the question, ‘What makes a story Queer?’ Through this comic, as well as my other works, I aim to evoke a tactile vintage quality. From the choice of paper to the subtle bleeding of ink, I strive to ensure that each piece appears and feels as though it originated in the 1960s, discovered serendipitously in a relative’s attic.

Venus and the Apis (2024) follows an anthropomorphic bee with poor navigational abilities on her first night outside the hive as she pollinates flowers. The comic serves as a stylized exploration of queer bar and hookup culture and the associated social complexities. In creating this work, I aimed to develop a clear, direct narrative that I felt my last comic lacked. I was particularly interested in guiding the viewer’s gaze across each page and refining my black-and-white illustration techniques. This process required me to engage deeply with every page and panel.
