Venus and the Apis

Venus and the Apis (2024) follows an anthropomorphic bee with poor navigational abilities on her first night outside the hive as she pollinates flowers. The comic serves as a stylized exploration of queer bar and hookup culture and the associated social complexities. In creating this work, I aimed to develop a clear, direct narrative, which I felt my last comic lacked. I was particularly interested in guiding the viewer’s gaze across each page and refining my black-and-white illustration techniques. This process required me to engage deeply with every page and panel.
